Monmouth Coffee

Monmouth Coffee

In 1978 in the basement of their shop on Monmouth St. Covent Garden roasting of the highest calibre began, using good old fashioned direct flame machinery. It was imperative therefore that the roasting of the delicate beans had to be done with skill and care, and the results of over thirty years of attentive practice are nothing short of exemplary.

They have naturally expanded their booming business to Maltby St. in Bermondsey (utilising three gorgeous old railway arches) and now use modern roasting machinery sourced from the cream of what Italy has to offer.
Here at Deli at Number 4 it’s all about quality, we are proud to serve this coffee in store and also stock Monmouth of all kinds of grind to take home, and we think we have found just about the best you can get- not only because of their fantastic roasting and blending talents and the standard of their produce but because of fair sourcing too. Don’t just take our word for it though, here’s a direct quote from their website:
“We roast coffee from single farms, estates and cooperatives. When we taste a coffee that we like, we want to know where it comes from and who grows, picks and processes it. We travel extensively throughout the year, visiting the producers and cooperatives with whom we currently work and looking for interesting varietals of coffee and new farms from which to buy. During these visits we talk to farmers and cooperative members, learning more about the coffee they grow and process and the challenges that they face. We then look to establish a relationship with the grower and exporter of that coffee. We believe that where such a relationship exists, quality, quantity and price requirements can be discussed in an open and equal way. We see this as sustainable, fair and equal trade.”

We know our customers love Monmouth coffee because they tell us and buy it to drink at home. Some of you are now asking us to supply other coffees from their range or larger quantities. As ever, we are happy to oblige. Let us know and we will happily add your request to our order. We have a new delivery every two to three weeks so it is always fresh.
