About Us

Deli at Number 4 was borne out of an idea from Jayne Pope, who back in November 2010 decided to take voluntary redundancy from Hexham Police station. Over the next 12 months she spent her spare time researching business opportunities and attending various business workshops. She had been thinking for some time about starting a business and having enjoyed baking for family and friends, decided a deli was the way she wanted to go.One of her colleagues and friend Jill Dickinson had joked that she would come to work for Jayne in the shop, but as things progressed Jill decided to take the plunge too and also took voluntary redundancy and joined Jayne in setting up the deli, becoming business partners.

The former Taylor’s wet fish shop in Beaumont Street was the perfect premises for the deli’s base and has now been transformed into a neat new delicatessen stocking a wide variety of speciality foods sourced locally and further afield.

A two day intensive training course at a deli in Hampshire equipped both Jill and Jayne with the specialist skills necessary for running the business.

The shop opened on March 21st 2012, and is steadily building a reputation for quality products, home baking, a wide selection of cheeses, sauces, pickles and jams,  and is increasing its stock of gluten free products.

Following many requests from our customers we have now opened the room initially used for meetings and the pop-up restaurant evenings as a small intimate tea room, serving a selection of home made soup, light lunches and cakes.

Did you know we also cater for Weddings, Anniversaries, Parties, business lunches, and other events?
